Cristallo

Cristallo glass, invented in 1450, is widely considered to be the first truly clear glass.

It was the creation of Venetian artist Angelo Barovier and was developed through the careful selection of ash and the addition of magnesium.

Cristallo is brittle and was difficult to cut and carve. It was a popular glass, though, for etching.
