Refractory

Materials are said to be refractory when they are capable of withstanding very high temperatures without burning, softening, or exploding.

Common refractory products used by glass artists include:

  • fire brick
     
  • fiber paper and blanket
     
  • silica flour
     
  • bead release

Most common refractories include aluminas and/or silicas.
