The National Glass Centre (NGC), located in Sunderland (UK), describes itself as "based in an innovative new building, set on the north bank of the River Wear, the National Glass Centre is dedicated to promoting glass in all its uses; in design and technology and as a vehicle for artistic expression."
The NGC includes a gallery, glass shop (including interest free loans!), a restaurant, a working glass studio, and a roof made of glass – that you can walk on (and which the NGC claims can hold 4,600 people). The NGC is also home to the University of Sunderland's Glass, Architectural Glass and Ceramics Department.
Past exhibits include William Morris: Past Present Future, Blaschkas - The Glass Aquarium and the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize.
