Core forming is one of most ancient techniques for creating glass vessels.
The process starts by forming a core shape (usually with clay) on the end of a metal rod. This core is then covered with molten glass and, optionally, decorated with additional glass.
Once the glass has cooled, the core is scraped from inside the glass. The void that remains is the interior of the vessel.
