"Sculptor and painter Hemi Bawa has drawn on the spirituality, sensuality, and reflective nature of her native India, as well as her fascination with the harmony and tension of geometric lines and textures, to become one of the most innovative and well-known artists working with glass in India today.
"An artist since childhood, she has moved far away from using glass purely for decorative or functional objects, which has characterized most glassmaking in India during the past century. Inspired in part by her study of Scandinavian glassmaking, Ms. Bawa creates kiln-fired cast glass sculptures and sculptures of glass with metal, wood, or acrylic. Her work uses transparency, luminescent hues, and clean geometric lines to convey a sense of mystery, freedom, and intensely personal meaning."
