"Oben Abright was born in 1980 in San Francisco. The son of artists, Oben spent his early years drawing, painting and making clay sculpture in his parents’ studio. He credits his parents as the major influence in his work. While in high school, he enrolled in drawing and painting classes at the College of Marin, where his father, Bill Abright heads the ceramic program. He also studied illustration, painting and drawing at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Following his graduation, Oben traveled to Florence, Italy and studied painting at the Lorenzo de’Medici Institute of Art. Upon his return to the United States, he enrolled as a full time student at the California College of Arts and Crafts and completed his Bachelor’s degree in 2004.
"Oben’s passion for drawing continues, and it is through life drawing, photography and a fascination with comic book art, that he develops ideas for his poignant and powerful, figurative glass sculpture."
