German for "high cut". Refers to a glass carving technique where the background is cut away leaving the design as the front surface. Synonymous with "relief cut".
The opposite of Hochschnitt is Tiefschnitt (or the Italian intaglio) where the background is left intact and the design elements are defined by the space where the glass is removed.
