A pastorale (sometimes pastorelli) is a glass-blower's tool simillar in design to the long-handled paddle used by a pizza chef to get the pizza in and out of the oven. Unlike the pizza paddle, the pastorale is made of metal.
The glass blower will typically lay his or her design elements (glass cane being the most common) on the pastorale so that those pieces can be heated in a glory hole or furnace to prepare them for attachment to the glass gather.
