Silicosis is respiratory disease caused by inhalation of silica dust which leads to inflammation and then scarring of the lung tissue.
A number of materials in a glass artist's studio can contribute to silicosis. These include glass powders, enamels, dust from refractory products (fiber blankets and papers and more).
There are several of precautions that can and should be taken. The most important of these is to wear an appropriately rated dusk mask.
